Chapter V – The Double

Words of wisdom: The great masses of the people will more easily fall victims to a big lie than to a small one.

In all of sudden it was absolute silence. No chatter, no bombs, firing, or any form of resonance, silence which was more silent than silence observed during mourning. It was like there was nothing functional at all, that would make even a slightest of sound. The whole world was blank, pitch darkness, with no possibility of knowing or understanding the passing of time. Finally a faint sound can be heard, which gets

clearer and clearer, realizing that it is the sound of breathing, along with the sound, vision becomes clear. When everything goes back to normal, he sees himself, in a hospital feeling very dizzy and lot of pain. His eardrums were ruptured, as he realized that he couldn’t hear from the right side.

He had bruises on his face, hands, and was badly hurt on his legs. Lots of wood splinter were removed from his leg and had a fractured his hand.

“ How are you feeling sir?”

“Very dizzy”

“I wont lie, the injuries are bad, and it will take some time to recover, and it is a miracle that you survived the blast….”

“What??”, “What blast are you talking of? How did I get here?”

“Sir you mean to say you don’t remember anything?”

“No”

“Well, there was a blast in the  wolfsschanze and because most of the blast was deflected by the conference table, you managed to escape the radius of the bomb……………”

It was a day of Chaos, as whole of Germany had come to a shock, the great Fuhrer Adolf Hitler was attempted for an assassination and that he was admitted in the hospital. Rumors were spread out regarding his health, some said that he was quite critical and that he would die any moment and some said that he might be paralyzed or in a coma. But the turmoil was short-lived, a public meet out was held in the evening, presided by Hitler. People all over Germany gathered to witness Hitler and see for themselves his health and his stand.

The place was overcrowded and sharp at 5:00 pm Hitler arrived on the podium and addressed the crowd

“ Loyal citizens of the third reich, I have come here to address to those people who want me dead…..”

Words from hitler created a little fuss and murmur in the crowd.

“You can try as hard as you can, but to your disappointment I will return, and will stay until my country achieves glory like we had in the past.”

By the time he made the statement the crowd was cheering and applauding thunderously. Amongst the excited crowd he couldn’t find any happiness and was grinning at the crowd, with deep thoughts inside

“….you managed to escape the radius of the bomb and I am afraid due to your condition, the injuries has accelerated your physical imbalance….”

German army soldiers enter the room and take their positions. The room had an unexpected visitor,

Adolf Hitler himself came to meet,

“How do you feel……..Castor?”

“I am in a lot of pain, because of you, you knew this was going to happen didn’t you ?”

“I don’t deny, but it was necessary”

“I could have died”

“Then you would have died for the nation, which is the greatest honor a man can have to cross the gates of Heaven”

“Why me”

“Because, you are special, the chosen one for fulfilling the command of the order….

pain is a temporary discomfort, which would heal with time, don’t panic, there is a whole nation in distress, and it is you who have to pacify them so that they can be assured that they are in good hands…”

“….As the order wishes…”

The bomb was planted by Von Stauffenberg an associate and colonel of the German army. He was an important member in the German army and was in good terms with Hitler, this created an opportunity for him to assassinate him. The plan was originally Drafted by Henning Von Tresckow who was the Major General for the German army, and was revealed later after the capture of stauffenberg and his associates. One of stauffenberg’s associate was Axel ferries who volunteered to eliminate Hitler but failed and was given death sentence before operation Valkyrie. Stauffenberg had convinced axel to assassinate Hitler and liberate Germany

“Axel, i am committing high treason with all my mights and means, this is the only way we can change the phase of Germany, and save millions of lives from the tyranny of Adolf Hitler”

“I understand it, but what if we fail?”

“Successful or not successful the assassination must be attempted, at least to prove the fact that not all Germans support his regime”

“Ok sir I will return victorious or dead”

True to his word, Axel had returned, but as a corpse. As for stauffenberg, he had planned the operation too well to fail, but the odds were in favor of Hitler as colonel Hanz Brandt moved the briefcase containing the bomb to the end of the table with his leg unknowingly. As a result colonel Hanz died due to blood loss as he lost his leg in the blast, but Hitler was already prepared for it with a double.

Nearly two years back while preparing for his master plan, Hitler was going through some History books. He considered ancient greek History to be source of inspiration, that’s when he came across, the story of two gods – Twin brothers Castor & Pollux, the name struck him immediately, his childhood friend Alexander Becker, nicknamed Castor. Surprisingly, he had a quite striking resemblance to Hitler, and have been in each other’s company for a long time. Hitler used him as a double to protect himself from the assassination plots and give him time to prepare. Castor used to attend many of the meetings as Hitler and while he is not, he wears a beard and mustache, becoming castor again.

As hard as Hitler tried to cover up the attempt, it really did make an impact on the germans as well as the allies, many were convinced that Hitler will be assassinated in the forthcoming years, and that the United States of America or Britain might annex Germany to their country. Surely people were unhappy with his dictatorship, but he was always about the welfare of the nation and respected the Germans, they rather adjust to his tyranny than to be a slave to an another nation. Unlike the people Hitler wasn’t worried, as he knew exactly where he was heading for and how it was going to end…..

Chapter IV – Amphibitious

(My sincere apologies to my fellow readers for the late update,i wont lie to you, things have not been going great with me, considering all the work load and preparations for entrance, life has been hectic and had no time to spare, with difficulty i could find out time and finish the story,…hope you like it, sorry once again…)

Words of wisdom: “By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise.”

“OPEN FIRE!!!”, with a loud cry among the chaos of the battlefield, the troops were trying to advance into the enemy, but the resistance was too strong. Grenades and gunfire through out the area was blocking the vision and the sky was swarming with fighter planes and it was raining lead all over the place. One by one the troops were killed and the ground once was quiet and still, were turned into a cemetery covered with bullets and blood. The Germans lost France, in a quite huge margin, they were totally unprepared and overpowered with ease, by the allies. They say Overconfidence and

arrogance is a dangerous mixture in war, with deadly consequences.

6th June 1944

marks the beginning of the most ambitious and largest multi terrain battle in the History of mankind, known as ‘Operation Overlord’. 160,000 British troops, 7000 vessels crossed the English channel along with 1200 airborne assaulters, forced the germans to retreat and leave France. Hitler triumphed on his most famous victory – the fall of france in the operation dynamo which had succeeded in 1940 ever since the allies had been planning to liberate france from the tyranny of Germany. But unlike their usual stand, they choose to be patient and made careful planning before attacking Germany. They not only want to conquer back France but also take them by complete surprise. They wanted to degrade their morale by an attack so fierce that they would never underestimate their enemies ever again.

First required was a careful planning and proper inspection and knowledge of the area, as in this case Normandy was chosen as the area of attack. Many photographers were sent to take the photographs of the places in normandy secretly under the pretext that they needed snaps of France for an exhibition
But in spite of that the beaches were singled out, and to study the beaches and area, the royal navy of Britain had developed an ‘X-craft’ which was a smaller version of a submarine left out using a larger submarine for detailed study. The X-craft was highly undetectable because of its incredibly small size.

Next what was needed was the technology, or we can say the flavor of the War – Advanced Firepower and artillery. Hobart funnies was the modern day advanced amphibious tank, which was capable of destroying anything in the way, equipped with flamethrowers. Came in different varieties and features like BARV was able to operate even under six feet of water. Then a strong fort was needed to serve as the powerhouse of the war-field, supplying arms, ammunition, First aid, food & shelter. The royal army developed a temporary harbor called as ‘mulberry’s’ In order to provide with tons of supply and sustain a huge battle. The oil and supply was sent through a pipeline called as PLUTO (Pipe Line Under The Ocean).

Then comes the most important part of a war- Deception. As far as the War is concerned all nations are paranoia about a surprise attack. During those times the situation was much more intense, so it was obvious that the germans would have  every owl on the watch for any sign or movement from the allies towards them, that is exactly why a decoy was required to take their attention off them. For months the allies were planning on deception, and through various sub operations like operation Fortitude and Operation Bodyguard they succeeded in creating an illusion that they were planning to attack on Pas De Calais. The short operating range of the British fighter plans, reduced the choice of potential landing sites to two: Pas De Calais & the port of Normandy.Through fake Radio transmissions and fake codes, they created an illusion, making the Germans believe that they would be attacked on, thus Pas De Calais was heavily guarded. ‘The fake agents’ were sending signals on radio confirming the existence of a hiding place near Pas De Calais, making it the likely to be main attack point. Dummy tanks, fake troops, trucks, were place on the eastern coast of Britain leading the germans to conclusion. To take a step further, Operation Skye was launched, which sent radio signals suggesting an attack on Norway. As a response to the phantom threat, some German Units were also placed in Norway. After Deception comes the phase which removes the ‘over-confidence factor‘ that is Rehearsal.

The allied forces rehearsed for the D-day for several months, to make sure that everything goes as per plan. Even though prior to the D-day information regarding their invasion was leaked out, the germans never considered it seriously- the biggest blunder ever. Then comes the final phase of the warfare i.e. Invasion. The british airborne assaulters took care of the the western & Eastern flank of Normandy blocking and destroying all bridges

transport and ways for supply and troops. The airborne landings were also intended to block some beachfronts like sword beach. The 82nd and 101st airborne divisions of United States were assigned on Utah beach. Despite all the efforts from the German panzers 21st division and they almost reached the channel, yet they were outnumbered and overpowered by the large army and airborne assault. The germans were totally unprepared, even if they succeed to resist, they wouldn’t be able to stop their power source (Supplies & troops). The result was a successful allied invasion, and casualties less than what the allies expected. The invasion boosted their morale and helped them in creating modern day war techniques and weapons.

As far as Germany was considered, they were in a state of shock and surprise as they never anticipated such an detailed and prepared invasion ever from the Allies. Hitler was in deep thoughts and displayed a little doubt regarding the Reich’s future. Something had to be done, in order to break the code.In july 1944 the results of Operation Overlord was to be declared, Hitler was in his study where he was talking to his associates regarding his plans for the future.

“ The allies have shown their true power in the battle of Normandy, this is something sooner than we expected, we have to move quickly, its time for phase I of the order….”

After all were gone, Castor talked in private with Hitler, “ I am still less convinced about the order, do you really think that this would work?”

“Have some faith and patience, as far as the allies have the notion that they are ahead of us, we are on the profitable side, problems begin only, when they realize that they are so far behind from us. “

“What about Normandy, we lost France and tomorrow they will come for us, then what would you do?”

“ They are not equipped to invade Germany, when Adolf Hitler is in command, as far as our plan is considered we keep moving, and lets not allow, sacrifices, like that of our loyal defense come in between our royal plan……………………………”

Then they talked for a few minutes, and parted ways, Hitler visited the Liar for a meeting with the members, regarding operation Overlord and its outcome.

“ Gentlemen, with regret i would have to say that, we are in verge of defeat as far as the battle of Normandy is considered but that doesn’t, mean that we are defeated, as a learning lesson, we have to learn to be much more prepared for an assault like that,…………………………………..

Suddenly the whole place went blank and it became dark. There was a huge explosion, that blowed out the eardrums off, and making the world go black.

Chapter III – Fall & Rise

Words of wisdom: “Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.” Image

“Gentlemen, its time…….”, Hitler said looking at his party members. Hitler who had been never so confident before, looked clearly at everyone’s face in the room as if he was meaning to clearly send the message to each and everyone, and enact on it.

“Its time to do what is necessary…..its been long enough and we cannot move forward carrying dead weight, we have to deal with it, and its not my order but this is what is good for the third reich, if we need to prosper any more we need to get rid of the undesirables. Thats all i have to say, this session is adjourned.”

January 1942

One of the most brutal days in Germany, nearly thirty Nazi concentration camps had been organised to ‘take care’ of the undesirables, which included prostitutes, homosexuals, miscreants, opposers and the jews. Not many of the people were aware of what was happening inside the camps, but the one’s who made it in, never came back. However it was believed that Nazi’s were experimenting on the people for information and research on human behaviour, pain & tolerance. They were basically used as ‘Lab rats‘ for testing their new antibiotics and poisons. Also the people were used as surgical experiments.

Although many experiments were conducted, all of the slaves were killed either in the process or after they survived. Strange enough, many of the slaves were periodically called in and out, and were kept alive, but the catch is all those prisoners never spoke a word. They don’t even try to speak anything.

Amidst all the pain and misery, hitler was celebrating on his success on the holocaust along with Himmler, the executioner of the holocaust, Goebbels, Krebs, Burgdorf, Bormann & Castor in his residence in the  reich chancellory. They had some casual persiflage for some time and they parted ways all except for Castor who was with Hitler for a while before he left. After then, Hitler was left alone to ponder around for a while, that’s when his war memories came back to his mind, and that brought a little disturbing frown on his face. July 1914 marked the beginning of the first world war, Hitler then was a resident of Munich and volunteered to serve in the Bavarian army. Posted to Regiment 16, as a dispatch runner, Hitler was expecting a fine discord of gun power but to his disappointment he stayed nearly half of the time well before the front lines but he was present in many of the battles like the battle of Arras, battle of Passchendaele & the battle of Somme, where he was wounded. He was decorated with Iron Cross second class in 1914 and in 1918 he was awarded Iron Cross first class, a conferral rarely given to a soldier of hitler’s rank, who was a Gefreiter (It means “the exempted” and denotes the older soldiers who were exempted from sentry duty). He also received the Black Wound Badge in the same year. When Hitler was wounded he served in the Red Cross Hospital in

Beelitz. But again in 15th october 1918 Hitler was hospitalized in Pasewalk, as he was temporarily blinded by a mustard gas attack.

Before being gassed, Hitler was quite troubled during the war, he wasn’t sure of the way the War was going and quite unclear of the outcome, beyond all confusion, he was

Image

unprepared for a surprise attack & thus the mustard gas caused a temporary blindness.

But the incident was literally an Eye opener for Hitler as that was the first time when he had the strangest dreams of his life, which later on he would dream all the time.

In the open air, a majestic eagle would fly flapping its wings slowly, as if it was enjoying the   thrust of air, passing through it. The eagle was made of iron and the shadow of the Eagle was covering the sun, making Hitler believe that the whole sky was made of Iron, but then out of nowhere, the eagle is shot and it is disintegrated into fragments of metal. Hitler witnessing the scene, cries out loud “ NOOOO!!!” with a sense of loosing a very valuable member of his family. The nurse who came to check his blood pressure was startled by this, as Hitler sprung from his bed like an alarm clock screaming, just about time he gained his lost vision, forming in slowly and clearly. His commanding officer the unteroffizier  (which was a higher non commissioned posting) then had to break out the news that Germany had lost the war and now that their country has to bear the most. Hitler utterly disappointed and disgraced by the defeat and the unfair conditions laid on Germany, began extensively researching on the failure of Germany in war and finding out the conditions laid on Germany post war. Hitler by now had full confidence in himself and had self acclaimed the responsibility of Building up the Nation and bringing back the Glory to the Reich once again.

The Treaty of Versailles had laid upon unfair conditions on the central powers and declared the central powers to be under agreement with peace treaties in the Paris peace conferences. They were responsible for all the reparations of the allied nations, as Germany themselves weren’t capable of sustaining their own population as an adverse effect of war, had to borrow finance from the United States of America, this led later led to the Great Economic Depression in 1920 affecting the whole world. Hitler was looking for a favorable company when he was attracted to the antisemitic, anti marxist, anti-capitalist & Nationalist ideas of the German Worker’s party (also later known as the German Nationalist Socialist German Worker’s party NSDAP) especially the founder of the party Anton Drexler. Coincidentally Anton Drexler also was quite interested in Hitler working for the party, as the sample of Hitler’s oratory skills & Nationalism was witnessed during a party meeting in Munich in 1919. Within a year Hitler was the undisputed leader of the party, and seizing the opportunity, he introduced the new party banner of the Swastika.

After the celebration of the execution of  Holocaust, it was a real bad phase for the German army as consistently they were defeated starting from the second battle of El Alamein, thwarting Hitler’s plan to seize the Suez canal & the Middle East. In 1943 the Battle of Stalingrad ended with the destruction of the German sixth army, thereafter came the decisive defeat at the battle of Krusk. By now most of the Nazi members were confident with the fact that Hitler’s military judgement’s successful reign had almost come to an end. But Hitler had chosen his most trusted allies and members to be purely Nazi nature, so till the end of Hitler they were loyal to them, despite betrayal and lack of information. But after 1943 hitler’s perception of loyalty totally changed…

“Axel, i am committing high treason with all my mights and means, this is the only way we can change the phase of Germany, and save millions of lives from the tyranny of Adolf Hitler”

“I understand it, but what if we fail?”

“Successful or not successful the assassination must be attempted, at least to prove the fact that not all Germans support his regime……….”
